THE DEBT

Synopsis

Writer/Director Assaf Bernstein’s award winning multi-generational political thriller is filled with action and intrigue.

In 1964 Rachel Brenner is one of three Mossad agents who capture “The Surgeon of Birkenau” a monstrous Nazi war criminal. In their safe house in Berlin, “The Surgeon” engages the young agents in a psychological duel, attacks them, and escapes. Aware that this escape will be seen by the world as a national failure for the new state of Israel, the three Mossad agents decide to fabricate “The Surgeon’s” death and unwittingly return home as national heroes.

In 1997, more than thirty years later, “The Surgeon” suddenly resurfaces in the Ukraine, determined to confess to his crimes against humanity. The three agents, and Rachel in particular, now need to terminate “The Surgeon” to protect the lie that their country’s history, and their own lives, have been built on. Produced by Eitan Eva, one of Israel’s most prominent producers.
